No more hiding under hats, pulling into a pony, or overdoing the flat iron. The daily bicker with frizz ends here.

HAIR THERAPY – WHAT MAKES FRIZZ TICK?

We can’t just say goodbye to frizz without discovering what makes it tick. Let’s take a deeper look.

It all began with the cuticle…

The cuticle is the outermost part of the hair shaft made up of dead cells that protect the inner structure of the hair and give it strength. It looks very much like overlapping layers of roof shingles. When the cuticle is lying flat or closed it looks smooth and allows light to be reflected off the surface for a natural sheen. When the cuticle is open hair appears frizzy, dull and coarse. Many factors can contribute to a frizzy cuticle.

  • TEXTURE: Some hair textures inherently have a cuticle that just won’t lie flat; curly hair being one of them.
  • DAMAGE: Stress from daily styling, hot tools, chemical processing and the elements can roughen the cuticle.
  • DEHYDRATION: Dehydrated hair becomes brittle causing the cuticle to rise. The problem compounds since the open cuticle lets even more moisture escape.
  • HUMIDITY: Alternatively, when hair encounters humidity the inner layers of the hair begin to swell creating breaks in the cuticle, making it jagged.

It seems that frizz has a lot of issues and some things therapy just can’t fix. Time to move on to a date with a smoother hair destiny. Try these frizz fighters on for size…

MOVING ON – THE LOVE AFFAIR WITH SLEEK

FOR LONG TERM FRIZZ CONTROL TRY…

BYE.BYE.FRIZZ 30-DAY NO FRIZZ KERATIN SMOOTHING TREATMENT

With just one us, this at home Keratin Smoothing Treatment takes frizzy hair to a level of smooth you never thought you could achieve for up to 30 days. It removes frizz from curly or straight hair and softens the texture of curls and waves for faster, easier straight styling.

The heat activated Hydrolyzed Keratin formula penetrates the cuticle to smooth the surface layer. Humidity is blocked, moisture is retained, strength is restored, damage is alleviated and shine is boosted. Plus, it reduces blow drying time by laminating the hair surface, sealing in moisture and preventing additional moisture from diffusing into the cortex. You can spend less time styling and more time enjoying your newly found frizz-free love affair.

Prom Hair: “I look this amazing without even trying”

Inspiration: Ashley Benson

Only prom, right? No big deal…only it is…but it can’t look like it is…but we all fret over it…ah school life!

image from brebeauty.com

When in doubt a relaxed sort of sexy works well for any formal occasion. The trick to this look is the simplicity of the style against the polished finish. This look will work no matter what you wear.

  1. Prep: A full smooth blowout is crucial to start this, so if your hair is curly use a smoothing shampoo and conditioner like bye.bye.Frizz Keratin Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner. If your hair is fine try our Dream Waves Amplifying Shampoo and Conditioner. This is perfect for hair that needs to have a bit of a wave and volume added.

  1. Blowout: Use a medium round natural bristle brush and bye.bye.Frizz Blow Dry Cream for your blowout. After applying product, take smaller sections, wrap hair around the brush and repeatedly roll it up and down slowly to avoid tangling as you blow dry. This look is about smoothness with a polished wave, so keeping hair taut all the way through as you blow dry is important.

  1. Set: Once a section is dry gently ‘unwind’ the section so that the motion is retained. Immediately roll it back up with your fingers and clip each section up; this helps to set the curved shape that the brush creates.

  1. Tousle: Once hair is finish unclip it and, with a bit of Moisture Gloss Daily Drops on your fingertips, go over each section so that it is super shiny and frizz free. Then gently play with the sections, breaking them up with your fingertips and tugging gently.

  1. Perfect: If you feel there is not quite enough movement take a large size curling iron and go over the hair (using large sections) to pump up the wave slightly. Remember the key to this look is natural so don’t over work the wave.

A light spray with Salon Expert Hairspray and you will be the perfect “I look amazing but I don’t care” prom queen.

Ann Margret Hair Paired with D&G Heels – Simply Divine!

Hair & Shoes – a Killer Combo!

Shoes… Why did we not think of this earlier? Our two favorite things – shoes and hair! You’re nodding your head thinking we are genius. We think so too.

Image from talkshoes.com / artistdirect.com

Who better as inspiration for these killer D&G shoes than Ann Margret. A grown up sexy look that begs to be duplicated.

You need full-on volume prep for this. We love our Instantly Thick Hair Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner as a start and a large, round bristle brush with some Instantly Thick Hair Thickening Cream or Salon Expert Amplifying Blowout Cream for the next step.

  1. Blow Dry: After washing and conditioning, apply the Cream from roots to ends. Using the brush keep your hair taut while holding the brush up high as you dry. Roll the brush down to the scalp and back out (this should be done cautiously as tangling may occur if you’re not careful) and keep repeating the process until dry. As you finish drying pin each section up in place (this helps each section to set its shape and volume).

  1. Roller Set: Once all of your hair is dry release the clips and take out extra large hot rollers. We prefer ceramic rollers as they hold a curl better and don’t leave marks in the hair. Before rolling up your sections spray each one with some Pro Finish Hairspray to give it hold.  Roll up each section and leave them to set for at least 15 minutes. You want tons of hold and volume for this.

  1. Back Brush: Once hair has cooled remove rollers, add some Moisture Gloss Daily Drops to your fingertips, flip your hair over and tousle your hair with vigour. Using a natural bristle/nylon brush gently back brush your hair. Hold a section of hair in one hand and softly, from mid shaft, brush towards the scalp. Repeat all over. Once this is done fuss with the hair to move it into place. You may need to gently brush any bits that look overly messy. One last spray with Pro Finish and you are ready for those gorgeous shoes!

Have a fabulously delicious, cheeky evening ladies.

SPRING 2012 HAIR TREND

HOT VS. VELCRO: THE ROMANTIC ROLLER SET OF SPRING 2012

The twilight moment: that moment after hair has been done, but before it becomes unraveled.  It is that state of grace when hair still has an amazing glamorous feeling yet just a little undone. This is the mood for Spring/Summer 2012.

We don’t know what was put in the fashion water this season, but for a change fashion seems to be more about a mood than a particular era. The look is pretty with a dash of romantic. It is definitely a nod to the glamorous side of the 60s, but so new; a modern JEAN SHRIMPTON.

To get the look it’s time to dig up those hot or Velcro rollers for a simple set. Quick and easy, you can leave the rollers to set as you get dressed and finish your makeup.

WASH: You want hair to be smooth yet full, so CURLY GIRLS should wash and condition with Style Straight Unwind Shampoo and Frizz Away Conditioner.  STRAIGHT HAIR GIRLS should use Instantly Thick Hair Thickening Shampoo and Volumizing Conditioner for extra body.

DRY: Blow dry with a ROUND BRISTLE BRUSH to get hair full and smooth with lots of movement.

HOT SET: Spray sections of hair with Pro Finish Ultimate Hold Hairspray and wrap around large HOT ROLLERS (min. 1 ½ inches). Roll back and away from your face. Let it set the curl until cooled.

vs.

VELCRO SET: Spray a light spritz of Strictly Curls Curl Booster on each section before rolling them in the large VELCO ROLLERS (min. 1 ½ inches). This will add a bit of extra curl hold since these rollers are not heated. Roll them back and away from your face and leave them in for 20 minutes. Before removing the rollers quickly apply some heat with a blow dryer to ensure a complete set.

FINISH: After removing the rollers, add Moisture Gloss Daily Drops to your fingertips and give a quick tousle. Use a nylon bristle brush to give the entire thing a proper brushing and loosen the curl. An allover spritz with Pro Finish and you’re ready for the season’s deliciously feminine clothing.

Sydney Waves – Quick Tips for a Mane on the Go

Mother was right, yet again. First impressions do count. Unfortunately nothing looks sadder than an unprepared glamour girl after a long and tedious flight. This little tête-à-tête reveals how to exit a train, plane or automobile looking old school glamorous and how to revive your mane on-the-go.

In Transit…

Wavy hair travels well, so you have several options. Before nodding off on the plane, gently TWIST your waves around your fingers toward the back of your neck and bobby pin into place to hold the wave. Alternately, you could make two loose BRAIDS on either side of your head.

Before it is time to disembark, remove the twists or braids and use your fingers to comb them out.

On-the-go…

STRAIGHT TO BONDI BEACH PARTY… No time to unwind at the hotel – you’ve got a beach party to hit. It’s time to add some TEXTURE to your wave. Spray DREAM WAVES BEACH SPRAY into your hair and scrunch to amplify the wave. Even if your hair is naturally straight, you’ll get a nice boost of texture so it looks like you’ve been relaxing in a cabana instead of snoozing on a plane.

Tokyo Shine – Quick Tips for a Mane on the Go

Mother was right, yet again. First impressions do count. Unfortunately nothing looks sadder than an unprepared glamour girl after a long and tedious flight. This little tête-à-tête reveals how to exit a train, plane or automobile looking old school glamorous and how to revive your mane on-the-go.

In Transit…

Shine can be difficult to maintain on a long plane or train ride. Tossing and tangling as you sleep; plus extra dry air can take the shine out of any diva. Prepare for the dry ride by AVOIDING WASHING your hair the day you depart. You want to keep some of your natural oils to make up for the dry air.

Throughout the journey BRUSH your hair once or twice – this is the best way to distribute natural oils from roots to ends. Add a bit of MOISTURE GLOSS DAILY DROPS to the mix and you’ll arrive shining bright.

On-the-go…

CATCH THE SHOPS IN HARASHUKU… Hold that cab… shop first, then hotel. Give a good spray of 2ND DAY CLEAR DRY SHAMPOO – your hair will feel clean, volumized and best of all full of shine.

Kenya Curls – Quick Tips for a Mane on the Go

Mother was right, yet again. First impressions do count. Unfortunately nothing looks sadder than an unprepared glamour girl after a long and tedious flight. This little tête-à-tête reveals how to exit a train, plane or automobile looking old school glamorous and how to revive your mane on-the-go.

In Transit…

Curly hair is the most difficult type to sustain while travelling on a train or plane, but not impossible. It can become dry quickly so start with OIL OF MOROCCO Argan Oil – it wraps around strands to prevent moisture loss.

Clip your hair loosely, HIGH ON THE CROWN with a large butterfly clamp (yes we know it’s not your finest fashionista moment). Cover the pillow with a SILK SCARF to keep hair from knotting. The silk scarf is also less likely to absorb your hair’s moisture.

Once you arrive tousle your hair lightly to revive any crushed curls.

On-the-go…

DIRECT TO THE SAFARI… Put the bags in the back of the Range Rover because you’ve got a date with some zebras and lions. Take a bit of STRICTLY CURLS CURL ENVY PERFECT CURL CREAM and rub it into your fingertips. Gently tousle and SCRUNCH your hair to wake up your curls. Safari has never looked so glam.

Paris Sleek – Quick Tips for a Mane on the Go

Mother was right, yet again. First impressions do count. Unfortunately nothing looks sadder than an unprepared glamour girl after a long and tedious flight. This little tête-à-tête reveals how to exit a train, plane or automobile looking old school glamorous and how to revive your mane on-the-go.

In Transit…

As you settle in for travel, brush your hair back and place a fabric HAIR BAND around your hairline to keep it out of your face. If you have a fringe, leave it.

Split your hair down the middle into TWO SECTIONS. Gently TWIST each section away from your face, roll them up around your fingers and clip them in place to prevent it from knotting as you get your beauty rest.

Just before arrival, unravel your hair and run a brush through.

On–the-go…

OFF TO THE LOUVRE… We hope you’ve had enough rest because there’s just enough time to drop off your luggage before you hit Le Louvre. Apply INSTANTLY THICK HAIR THICKENING CREAM to your fingertips. In a circular motion, rub it into your ROOTS to add some lift. Add a bit of MOISTURE GLOSS DAILY DROPS to revitalize shine. So art chic!

Essentials for Travel – Quick Tips for a Mane on the Go

Mother was right, yet again. First impressions do count. Unfortunately nothing looks sadder than an unprepared glamour girl after a long and tedious flight. This little tête-à-tête reveals how to exit a train, plane or automobile looking old school glamorous and how to revive your mane on-the-go.

Keep in mind that anything not meeting safety requirements will be confiscated when travelling. If you pack cautiously you can avoid the fashion police and arrive looking fabulous.

Hair Moisturizer: Airplane air is some of the driest around. Even drier than deserts. Even with an oily scalp, your scalp may shine but your ends will wilt. MOISTURE GLOSS DAILY DROPS is perfect for any hair type and small enough to meet air travel carry-on requirements.

Dry Shampoo: If you have too much oil use a dry shampoo to absorb the excess. If travelling by train or automobile, bring 2ND DAY CLEAR DRY SHAMPOO to absorb oil, volumize and add shine.

Silk: Avoid pillows and seat fabric on the plane or train; they’re just plain creepy. Instead, bring a silk scarf to cover the pillow. Cotton and other porous fabrics will take the moisture and shine from your hair and cause tangles.

Hydration: Use skin moisturizer and drink lots of water to keep hydrated, inside and out.

Other must have carry-ons: To guarantee all-over travel glam, be sure to pack lip balm, hand sanitizer, makeup removal wipes and tissues.
