Extreme Heat Hair Alert – Part 2 of 2

The Top Knot

Hot, humid, sticky weather… not the best beauty forecast. While part of you is thinking of surrendering your fashion look and just going with whatever hairstyle keeps you cool, the reality is that you have to find a way to at least look amazing while getting into work before your hair has a total meltdown.

A heat alert rule of thumb; as long as your hair is touching your skin you will manufacture more heat which will produce more frizz, so keep it up and off of your neck. Here is an idea that keeps the hair off of your neck for a much needed cool down.

GET THE LOOK:

  1. Ponytail: Gather hair into a high ponytail.  You want to have a bit of a dishevelled finish so don’t pull your hair super tight or smooth.
  2. Add texture: After you have secured it with an elastic, add a dash of Dream Waves Beach Spray to the pony; you want to add a bit of texture so that the hair’s natural movement is showcased. Use your fingers to move it through the hair.
  3. Add more texture: To add a bit more texture you can use your fingers to tease your hair; this adds dimension without a finished look. Hold the ponytail up and “rake” your fingers towards the base of the pony.  In essence your fingers are the brush. This will add texture.
  4. Bun it: Once this is finished take the ponytail and loosely wrap it around the base of the ponytail in a circular motion, adding bobby pins to hold it in as you go.

It’s the instant cool answer to the sweltering heat.

Extreme Heat Hair Alert – Part 1 of 2

The Braided Bun

Remember in the middle of that wicked cold snap a few months ago when you where thinking “bring on the heat!”  Who says you don’t get what you ask for.

There is just one rule in the extreme heat hair alert… keep it off of your neck!  As long as your hair is touching your skin you will manufacture more heat which will produce more frizz (we call this school of thought “fashion science”).

Here are a couple of ideas that keep you cool while looking hot.

GET THE LOOK:

Two modern ways to wear this bun: 1) low at the back or 2) high up (shorter haired hotties should go with the first bun).

  1. Add texture: Take freshly washed hair (keep it damp), spray it with Dream Waves Beach Spray for a bit of texture (this makes it easier to manipulate) and draw it into a ponytail. Wrap it tightly with a covered elastic which will help to keep your hair protected from breakage. You can smooth the hair with a bit of Moisture Gloss Daily Drops to give it high shine.
  2. Camouflage: Cover the elastic by taking a little section of hair, wrapping it around the elastic and pinning it after it is wrapped. This way it has a polished finish.
  3. Braid it: Braid the ponytail (a regular braid is fine for this) and if you want something a bit more exotic looking try fishtail braiding it before you pin it up. Once finished add another elastic on the end to stop it from unravelling, twist it around the base of the ponytail and pin in place.

Not only will this keep you fresh, it gives you “cool cred”!

URBAN CHIC

We love old school glamour and the scarf is a timeless classic way to get the look. It adds a bit of extra flair so that your hair looks ‘put together’, not ‘thrown together’, even on those pesky bad hair days. Marc Anthony shares an ‘Urban Chic’ way to incorporate a scarf into your spring and summer mane.

Perfect for hot summer days at work. This look works best with a bit of movement, so you’ll need to do a full blowout first.

The Hair

  • To get more fullness try Instantly Thick Hair Thickening Cream  or Salon Expert Volumizing Blowout Cream, which not only creates volume but also adds a ton of shine.
  • Use a round brush to get extra body as you blow dry, especially the root area.
  • Add a bit of waves at the ends with an extra large barrel curling iron.
  • Gently gather hair to the side and hold in place with a covered elastic band.

The Scarf

  • Fold the scarf into a loose 2” – 3” STRIP.
  • Hold the scarf over the elastic band and tie it tightly into a knot.
  • Create a bow to your liking, fluffing the bulb of the bow to your preferred size. Leave the tails hanging loosely.

EVENING OUT

We love old school glamour and the scarf is a timeless classic way to get the look. It adds a bit of extra flair so that your hair looks ‘put together’, not ‘thrown together’, even on those pesky bad hair days. Marc Anthony shares an ‘Evening Out’ way to incorporate a scarf into your spring and summer mane.

This elegant scarf technique will add some distinction to your evening up-do. The look definitely needs some curl.

The Hair

  • After blowing hair out spray Salon Expert Color Shine Hairspray and use a large barrel curling iron to curl hair all over.
  • Once hair is all curled gently run your fingers through with a bit of Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Treatment to add shine and break up the curls a bit.
  • Bobby pin hair up loosely; start at the sides and work to the back leaving the front for last.
  • Play with the front to pull curls back further or leave them towards the front.

The Scarf

  • Once hair is pinned up twist the scarf into a THIN ROPE.
  • Pin one end behind the ear (tucking it into the hair) and weave the other end in and out of your curly up-do.
  • Once finished pin the other end ensuring it is tucked in and hidden. With a few bobby pins look for loose pieces and secure them in.
  • Once you have the scarf firm you can go through with your fingers and tug slightly here and there to add some volume to the bits of scarf poking through.

BOHO HIPSTER

We love old school glamour and the scarf is a timeless classic way to get the look. It adds a bit of extra flair so that your hair looks ‘put together’, not ‘thrown together’, even on those pesky bad hair days. Marc Anthony shares a ‘Boho Hipster’ way to incorporate a scarf into your spring and summer mane.

Simple is best sometimes. Nothing adds to espadrilles and a summer frock like a scarf tied and left hanging. Whether hair is straight or waved this double knot will keep your hair out of your eyes while keeping all eyes on you.

The Hair

  • If going straight, make it as sleek as possible. Try a hot tools spray like Style Straight Iron Shine Flat Iron Spray to protect your tresses as you iron them out. You’ll also get so much shine that the sun will need shades.
  • If you prefer a more relaxed summer wave, use a texturizing spray like Dream Waves Beach Spray. Even if your hair is naturally straight it will amplify it into a fresh beachy texture, which works so well with this hipster look.

The Scarf

  • Fold the scarf lengthwise over and over into a 2” – 3” STRIP.
  • Gently pull hair up and secure it with a wide jaw clip to keep it out of the way while you tie the scarf.
  • Tie the scarf ensuring the double knot is on the left or right allowing the ‘ribbons’ to hang over the shoulder.
  • We suggest two bobby pins to secure the scarf – one on each side behind the ears – to help keep this look without worrying about your band sliding off.

SAIL AWAY

We love old school glamour and the scarf is a timeless classic way to get the look. It adds a bit of extra flair so that your hair looks ‘put together’, not ‘thrown together’, even on those pesky bad hair days. Marc Anthony shares a ‘Sail Away’ way to incorporate a scarf into your spring and summer mane.

This classic look can work at the beach or as you dance the night away under the summer stars. To keep it looking new we suggest not tying it overly tight – loose works best for this.

The Hair

The Scarf

  • Fold the scarf over into a TRIANGLE and place it where you would like it to sit on your head.
  • Once you are happy with the placement use two large clips and pin the scarf where it sits best so you can fuss with the knot without it moving the scarf.
  • Once satisfied with the knot remove the clips and leave the ends down and loose. Voila mademoiselle le pirate.

CITY ROMANCE

We love old school glamour and the scarf is a timeless classic way to get the look. It adds a bit of extra flair so that your hair looks ‘put together’, not ‘thrown together’, even on those pesky bad hair days. Marc Anthony shares a ‘City Romance way to incorporate a scarf into your spring and summer mane.

A pretty way to stay fresh this summer. It is practical, cool and visually pretty. It works so well with a fringe, but can look equally pretty with hair all pulled back off the face.

The Hair

  • This look works for all hair types. If you like a smooth finish blow hair out with a round brush and bye.bye.Frizz Blow Dry Cream.
  • If you prefer to stay curly, loosen the curls so that when pulled back it still creates a soft look. Apply Blow Dry Cream and stretch out the curls with your fingers as you apply heat with a blow dryer.
  • Pull hair back into a ponytail and twist into a tight knot, finishing the top of your hair with some Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Treatment for a bit of sheen.

The Scarf

  • Fold the scarf over in an ACCORDIAN like manner.
  • Bobby pin one end against the knot and continue to pin at random intervals until you reach the end. Fluff as needed.
